Uhhhh yes, the style Joanna Gaines seemed to single handedly make popular. Farmhouse just happens to be one of my favorite decorating styles. So what exactly is farmhouse? This decor includes lots of neutral warm tones, barn doors, stunning wood elements. Many farmhouse spaces feel warm and cozy and can be a perfect blend of the old and new. Your room shouldn't look like you went to rooms to go and picked it all out in 5 minutes.
Here are some of the reasons why I love the farmhouse style, especially with a family. Decor items tend to be more hearty (with stand crazy kids) without sacrificing a gorgeous look. For instance, our main dining table is a farmhouse design. I love it because we can have beautiful chairs with light fabric all while the kids use the bench area to eat. This allows for easy cleanups. Another important part to this design is making sure to incorporate natural elements. Lots of wood looks, both natural and weathered. Also, mix a variety of metal finishes and always some greenery.
Now that you have a better understanding of the style, let's talk shopping! Target's Harth and Hands collection has lots of options. Both World Market and Homegoods can be great places to accessories. One of my top choices for accessories and wall decor would have to be Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby can be very overwhelming if you meander in without a game plan. The amazing thing about Hobby Lobby is basically half of their store goes on sale every other week. Before I go, I ALWAYS look at their weekly ad. Those are the decor pieces I look for while I am there. Remember to have fun mixing and matching from different places.
